Riding in Arizona — FAQs

Practical answers for trail riders around the Valley.

Do Maricopa County regional parks allow horses?

Yes — most regional parks are multi-use and welcome equestrians, with designated staging areas for trailers. A per-vehicle day-use fee applies at park entry.

Where can I park a horse trailer?

All of the parks above have equestrian staging or trailer-friendly lots. On cool-season weekends, arrive early — staging areas fill fast.

When is the best season to ride?

October through April is prime time in the low desert. In summer, ride at dawn or trailer up to the high country around Prescott and the Verde Valley.

Are there communities with direct trail access?

Yes. Rio Verde, Cave Creek and several north Scottsdale communities back directly onto regional trail systems — tell us trail access matters and we’ll shape the search around it.

Do I need a permit to ride?

No riding permit is needed for personal horses on most public trails — just the park’s day-use fee where one applies.
